Creator (Role)

Daniel Curtiss (Maker)
1799-September 1872
Daniel Curtiss is listed in the Albany city directories as a fancy pewterer begining in 1822. In 1843 his advertising indicated that he would work in cast iron, brass, and composition castings. Curtiss seems to have stopped making pewter in 1850, though he continued as a bell-founder until his death. Curtiss was born in 1799 or 1800. For more on Daniel Curtiss's marks, see Carl Jacobs, Guide to American Pewter (1957), p.59; Kauffman, The American Pewterer (1970), p.137; Ebert, Collecting American Pewter (1973), p.127; C.
